BIRCH
type: hardwood
Birch is commonly used in furniture, veneers, interior finishing, wooden flooring, violin bows, and wooden novelties. Birch is a very heavy, strong, durable wood. It is hard and stiff, with excellent shock-resistance.
The wood is whitish to pale brown, without conspicuous features, fairly straight grained, fine-textured. Birch has a small degree of luster, which gives it silky apperance.
Excellent (cheaper) alternative for maple.
